You are perfectly capable of deciding your own destiny. The question is: Which path will you choose?

I was one of the many faces in the plethora of graduating students in the year 2005. Like many of my counterparts, I was excited and eager about what my future held and in the frenzy of going for interviews after interviews, I came across an entrepreneurship talk conducted by Peter Tan, chairman of Peter Tan Organisation (PTO®).

“Do not let the degree you hold be a stumbling block in achieving your dreams.” Peter Tan said during the seminar. At that time, I wondered how my degree could be a stumbling block. If anything at all, my second upper class honours degree was the passport to my swanky banking job, a managerial role by age 30 coupled with the BMWs and private apartments, and other luxuries that often came along with it.

Looking back on what Peter Tan said now makes sense to me. Most of us hold a blind conviction to the fact that our degree will secure us stable jobs, a notion perpetuated by our society and our upbringing. However, what is stable today?

“Jobless rate surges to 13% in the U.S”

“Unemployed likely to reach 30,000 by year end”

These headlines are ubiquitous in today’s newspapers, challenging the very belief that a degree secures jobs. In the midst of the recession today and seeing for myself how friends and family members are being retrenched from their ‘stable’ jobs while others wait out with frazzled nerves, wondering when will their turn be next, I found myself being appreciative of the career path I have chosen for myself 4 years ago.

My pay package in excess of $100,000 per annum will still be there when I wake up tomorrow, I know for certain my 5 figure bonus will be payable at the end of the year and my annual long haul holiday plans with all expenses covered remains unchanged.

No doubt, it may be an unconventional route for a graduate to take and there are yet others that question the scale of my ambition. But being fresh out of school, I had nothing to lose if i choose Peter Tan Organisation (PTO®). It was now, to take that leap of faith and to start living my dreams. I knew that if I choose Peter Tan Organisation (PTO®) did not take this chance, I would look back with regret when I was very much older and wondering what the outcome would have been. A book I once read said that opportunities are like balls being thrown at you. You have but that one second to catch them or the moment will be gone forever.

Peter Tan Organisation (PTO®) trains us hard. The proven system developed by the dedicated managers and chairman, coupled with one’s diligence and attitude for learning sees an astounding success rate. The warm family culture painstakingly built up over years remain steadfast, in which fellow colleagues help one another without agenda, in which duties and responsibilities are gladly seized, rather than grudgingly accepted, in which love, trust and respect is a way of life and not the bottom line.

Opportunities for self development are abound in Peter Tan Organisation (PTO®). In the past year, I have travelled extensively to China to work on high net worth individuals (aka multi millionaires), a job scope and experience akin to that of a private banker. I have also studied the feasibility of a brokerage firm in China, meeting up with executives from the publishing, finance and education industries, an opportunity only a lucky few would have been given, working in the outside world.

Peter Tan Organisation (PTO®)’s mission is to make its people richer and happier. I would say they have done a terrific job. I know my future lies with Peter Tan Organisation (PTO®) and as I continue to build my aspirations and legacy, I grow more certain of the path I have chosen. Visit me @ petertan.com.sg
